A steering damper is a shock absorber for your steering. All live axle Land Rovers are fitted with a steering damper to control vibrations and feedback caused by large diameter tires. The larger the tires the more work the steering damper needs to do.
 
Handling characters are a personal choice. The amount of feedback you can feel or the speed of loco to lock is no longer a compromise. The Terrafirma adjustable steering damper provides 4 options of damping force that allows the driver to select the setting that feels best. Terrain conditions, larger or smaller tires, tread types or pressures and the driving style will all have an effect on how your Land Rover handles and reacts. This steering damper can be set to suit your vehicle with the simple turn of the adjuster knob built into the shock. Increasing the damping reduces feedback from rough surfaces exaggerated by larger wheels, which is particularly effective at high speed. Reducing the damping allows a quicker steering action.
 
All Terrafirma steering dampers have multi stage damping and use the latest cellular foam technology for superior performance. Painted in the traditional Terrafirma silver metallic finish with red dust shield.
 
This damper is designed as a direct fitment for Land Rover Defenders. It will also fit Discovery 1 and Range Rover Classics when using Terrafirma’s damper relocation kit TF527. This kit is designed to fit heavy duty steering arms which are wider than standard bars. The clamp fits to the HD drag link, while the chassis bracket fits to the passenger side chassis leg. This can be fitted to RHD or LHD vehicles. It may be required to fit extended bump stops to ensure the steering bars do not foul the bracket under extreme suspension compression.
